Project: Modern Country Bathroom · Northern California

The Client

A professional couple who purchased a home with an abandoned bathroom remodel and wanted a retreat worthy of the property.

The Brief

The goal was to transform a non‑functional space into a modern country primary bathroom that feels rustic, rich, and relaxing—without sacrificing modern function.

Our clients wanted:

  • A roomy bathroom and functional closet within the existing footprint.
  • A jetted tub that reheats the water as it circulates.
  • A comfortable shower for two with a frameless or minimal enclosure.
  • A separate toilet room.
  • A clear, operable window and a view to the outdoors.

Before: An abandoned remodel

Nothing was working. The clients inherited a half‑finished, chopped‑up layout that made poor use of space and didn’t align with their lifestyle or taste.

  • Before: Our clients purchased the house “as-is” including an abandoned bathroom remodel.

  • Before: Barely visible on the right is the old stall shower.

  • Before: On the right is the old, non-functioning vanity.

What We Did

We started by fixing the fundamentals:

  • Removed interior walls so three small, disconnected rooms became one generous, cohesive space.
  • Designed a single wet room for tub and shower, simplifying waterproofing and allowing a more open, spa‑like feel.
  • Added larger, better‑placed windows to bring in natural light and views.
  • Created a highly functional double vanity with his‑and‑hers drawer banks, open towel storage, a roll‑up appliance garage, and pull‑out bottle storage.
  • Balanced rustic warmth with modern clarity through carefully curated finishes: dark, rich bathroom furniture; natural granite; natural sliced‑pebble flooring; wood‑look and stone‑look porcelain tiles; and industrial‑inspired lighting and hardware.

From the first ideas to the final walk‑through, we worked hand‑in‑hand with the contractor, fine‑tuning details, responding to site conditions, and making sure the finished space honored both the design vision and everyday function.

The key to this transformation? Making three small spaces into one large room.

We have hired Jackie twice for some fairly substantial remodel projects in our home. She has a keen sense of what her clients’ desires are and incorporates those tastes into the design ideas she presents… Jackie has a deep sense of accountability to the end product… We are absolutely thrilled with the final result!"
