Push Bar on Door

Creativity is pushing boundaries

Creativity is pushing boundaries. It's the impatient shrugging off of the old in favor of the new. And, it's uncomfortable.

I've noticed that I finish rooms I'm designing for clients two or three times as quickly as those I'm designing for myself. Why is that? Commitment. I'm committed to my clients. I've put my professional credibility on the line, and I'm motivated to press on, to do my best work, to finish.

I've discovered a way to generate commitment when I don't have a client to serve. It's community. I share my goals with my mastermind group, with my peers, and with my family, and they give me the motivation to keep going. They give me a safe place to experiment, to make mistakes, and be creative.

It’s so true. Just vocalizing to others helps us to be accountable to ourselves.
